Laatikko

2022

Limestone pieces are masoned together with mortar to form a box like shape. The inner space has carved text in it. What is written remains a secret unless the box gets broken.

I wanted to play with time as the chosen material stone can potentially last almost forever but the mortar will eventually brake thought it might take centuries. In that time everything from me probably forgotten but what is written in the stone is still there though its meaning has perhaps changed.I also wanted to play with language or the lack of it in this case. There is the knowledge that something is written but it is inaccessible, or perhaps it could be thought as of something impossible to translate. Words have the power to explain yet the world remains somehow inaccessible by language. The intention never quite matches.
